Insure my travels
Perfect for those who hold a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) and wish to use this to reduce the cost of claims for medical treatment in the European Economic Area.
The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is the replacement for the former E111 card. Depending upon the country of travel, EHIC holders are entitled to free or reduced cost medical treatment. The EHIC can be used to cover any medical treatment resulting of either an accident or illness. It is worth noting that if you are travelling abroad specifically for medical treatment, the EHIC will not cover you for this; you will need to purchase separate private insurance.
The EHIC entitles the holder to state-provided medical treatment within the country they are visiting. In some cases this may not cover all costs of treatment as the services you receive may not be what you would expect from within the UK. You will be responsible for the additional costs of treatment not covered by your EHIC, but this amount can be submitted as a medical claim on your Travel Insurance.
The EHIC helps to reduce the value of medical claims to American Express, a saving we would like to pass on to you. To reflect this, the EHIC option allows EHIC holders to discount their policy premium.
EHIC cards are valid for 3 or 5 years and are required to be renewed. To obtain an EHIC card or renew an existing card please visit www.ehic.org.uk
